6th Grade Food Wars Rages Nov. 7 -18

As you may know, the 6th grade Food Wars are about to start. Some of you may have done it before, and I hope the new 6th grader will have as much fun as you had. In order to find out a little bit more about the food wars, I interviewed the pod leaders of all of the 6th grade pods, who are the ones running this entire thing.

First, I interviewed Red Pod leader, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith. She says the goal for the food drive is, “To provide as much food as we can for Homes for Hope as we possibly can. Also, my personal goal is to beat last year’s total.” During this time of year, these places run low of food, so you would be doing a great job if you helped them and bring food in, 6th graders.

Next, I interviewed the Green Pod leader, Mr. Mike LaTorre. “The most challenging part of the food drive is the students remembering to bring the food in,” said Mr. LaTorre. Food War tip:  write a reminder down somewhere so that you’ll remember.

Finally, I interviewed Mrs. April Harvey. When I asked her when the food wars started, she said, “Oh, I don’t know. But I can tell you it was well over a decade ago.” THAT was what interested me. 6th graders, by participating in this, you are taking part in a big tradition that started even before you were born. So help out and continue the tradition as well as the kindness.

You might ask, where is this food going. But by putting food into that box for Homes for Hope, you are doing an amazing deed. You are helping people all over the world who have less than you and need what you can give them. So please, the next time you’re out on an errand with your mom or dad, buy a can of food for Homes for Hope and help people in need.
