The Mixer: A Success that Needs Repeating

Usually editorials complain or find fault; however, we are taking space here to give praise.

The “Ursus” staff would like to applaud the Bedford and Coleytown PTAs, the parents who chaperoned the event, and the Bedford and Coleytown staffs for hosting the 8th grade mixer. They did an amazing job for which the middle school Westport community is grateful.

The 8th grade mixer was a combination of Bedford and Coleytown students got to have fun together doing activities such as pop-a-shot, a photo booth and a DJ playing music.

Eighth graders have often complained about not having a dance; now they do. One thing that 8th graders enjoyed about the event was the ability to meet Coleytown kids. This was a great idea since we will be going to high school with them next year. There was a combination of activities planned and a chance just to be able to go to the courtyard or talk in groups.

Despite the mixer’s success, we believe that for next year, the organizers should aim to incorporate student input and involvement into future decisions for the event.

Despite the hesitance of attendance until the final day, the party was a massive success, exceeding all expectations, especially those of the attendees. The 8th graders have started a tradition that we hope continues for years to come.
