Is it all downhill from here?

My first political memory is looking at a map of America colored blue and red on the television screen when Obama was running for president the first time. Now that it’s someone else’s turn, with every new piece of news about the election, my world seems closer and closer to becoming a dystopia.

What would happen if the brash Donald Trump, Republican candidate, becomes president? What about Hillary Clinton, Trump’s Democratic opponent, who many argue is a liar? Truthfully, neither are my favorite people, but I hope Hillary wins.

What concerns me about Hillary is the same as all others. The “email scandal” has been a huge issue throughout the past few years, since Hillary used her private email during her time as Secretary of State for work related emails. She was wrong in doing what she did, and she has recognized that and apologized on countless occasions. The FBI investigated, and no charges were filed.

New information through Wikileaks about possible shadiness regarding Hillary and her campaign comes out all the time, and of course it worries me, but it’s really getting old.

On the other hand, Trump has a history of encouraging violence against protesters at his rallies. In fact, during one of those rallies in Cedar Rapids, he told his supporters, “So if you see someone getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the [expletive deleted] out of them, would you? Seriously.” However, at the CNN Republican debate, Trump said, “Well I certainly don’t incite violence. I don’t condone violence. And I don’t talk about violence.” Really, Mr. Trump?

Also, Trump is extremely sexist: he thinks of women only as things to look at. He proved this when he declared, “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write[s] as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of [epithet deleted].”

A reason that so many Americans are planning to vote for Trump is because of his business skills. I wonder if they know about what his daughter, Ivanka Trump, explained so well in the documentary “Born Rich”: “I remember once, my father and I were walking down 5th Avenue, and there was a homeless person sitting, um, sitting right outside of Trump tower, and I remember my father pointing to him and saying you know, ‘That guy has 8 billion dollars more than me.’ Because he was in such extreme debt at that point, you know?”

At least six of Trump’s companies have gone bankrupt, not to mention the debt his daughter spoke of. I would think twice before saying that Trump is a great businessman. Between his failures in business, his rude words, and his violent temper, he is not someone to give the fate of America to.

What Hillary has that Trump doesn’t is quite a list. Hillary has been helping children for decades, striving to improve childcare and all children’s lives. She wants equality for women, jobs for all Americans, and a higher minimum wage. Despite her flaws, Hillary strikes me as someone who cares about other people and about America. Contrarily, Trump seems to me someone who only cares about himself.

This election is riveting, yet tiresome after time. So, what’s my opinion on the election? Cross your fingers for Hillary, or it’s going to be a long four years.
