Over the summer, there have definitely been some changes to the cafeteria. Brand-new wooden barriers, new drinks and displays have been seen as an upgrade by the Bedford community.

“I like the new design and I like the new sushi,” said Joy Xu, a 7th grader, and it’s not only students who like the new designs. Teachers like it too, “I like how they don’t make kids take fruit anymore, and I also like how even though they stopped making kids take fruit, they put the fruit display front and center,” said Mr. Don Savage, health teacher.

Where did all this new stuff and food come from? Chartwells, the food service contracted to provide breakfast and lunch for the Westport Public Schools paid for the changes.
Chartwells has been Westport’s main lunch service and the students do seem to like the improvements. But the problem for some students is not about adding more healthy food, it’s about choosing the right food. “Students need to make the right choices when buying food,” said science teacher Mrs. Harriet Carusi.

Students have noticed the improvements. “It’s definitely much better than it was before,” said 8th grader Gustav Zauls. “Before it was much harder to get your food.”
