The Nutmeg Book Awards results are in and the student’s have chosen their favorite books.

“The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate won the Intermediate Award, and “Counting By 7’s” by Holly Goldberg Sloan won the Teen Award. In a poll sponsored by the BMS LMC by 52 students (25 sixth graders, 20 seventh graders and seven eighth graders), “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer was the most read teen nominee (with 20 reads) and “Counting By 7’s” was the most popular. “The One and Only Ivan” and “Pie” by Sarah Weeks tied for most read, and “The One and Only Ivan” was the most popular for the intermediate category. Mrs. Zatorsky said that for the teen category, “Counting By 7’s” and “Reboot” by Amy Tintera were her favorites.“I liked both, but they were in very different genres, because ‘Counting By 7’s’ is realistic fiction, and ‘Reboot’ is science fiction,” she explained. She said that for the intermediate category she had to agree with the crowd – “The One and Only Ivan” was her favorite.
