This year, Hanuka, the festival of lights, begins Sunday, Dec. 22, and goes eight days to Dec. 30. The holiday marks a second century B.C. event when Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt. The festival has a long list of special words important to the eight days.
