Battle of the BMS Boots: Timberlands vs. Uggs
Are Timberlands the new Uggs?
Many teenagers have become obsessed with the new trend of Timberlands this winter. In past years Uggs have dominated all other winter feet, but this year Timberlands gave Uggs the boot.
Uggs, which are manufactured in Australia and New Zealand, are made of sheepskin which many middle school girls like because it keeps their feet warm in the winter. The boots were first popular with male surfers. They exploded onto BMS feet in the late 1990s and were purchased by all.
Timberlands, manufactured in New Hampshire, are made of thick leather with a steel toe, aren’t necessarily as warm as Uggs but are indestructible and can be worn in the rain and snow, unlike Uggs.
Timberlands come in various colors ranging from brown to black to red while Uggs range from tan to brown to even purple. These two pairs of boots couldn’t be more different. Timberlands are for kicking butt while Uggs are for kicking back.
Both shoes are seen in BMS but which one is more popular?
Gabby Lampugnale, a 7th grade student at Bedford Middle School, has seen that the more popular shoes this year are Timberlands. “I don’t have Timberlands but my sister does and every time we pass the Timberlands store she freaks out. People are always wearing Timberlands, boys and girls.”
However, Jaiyana Khan, a sixth grader, disagrees that Timberlands are more popular than Uggs.“ I would buy Uggs if I had a choice instead of Timberlands because Uggs are much more comfortable.”
Timberlands and Uggs are supposedly co-ed, but AJ Konstanty, thinks Uggs are “weird” for boys to wear, and Timberlands are better suited for boys. Listen up guys – Uggs became popular through Southern California surf shops. surfers put them on when they came out of the ocean. Girls wore their surfer boyfriend’s pair of Ugg boots like a letterman jacket.
Most girls wear Uggs with almost any outfit in the winter, but we see guys and girls more frequently wearing Timberlands in almost any season.
Finally, Laura Brown agrees with Jaiyana Khan, “Uggs are more fuzzy and comfortable but Timberlands are better to go into the rain and snow with because Uggs are easily damaged.”
Girls, a little piece of advice about boot wear: if you’re looking for boot wear to keep your feet warm when it gets colder, we would definitely go with Uggs. So get snug with your Uggs.
If you have a more tomboy side and want your outfit to be a little bit more chic, grab your Timberlands and take the road less traveled, because that will make all the difference.
