6th and 7th Graders Hungry for Snack

8th graders have snack each day because their lunch is so late in the afternoon.

Most students feel strongly about the early time of lunch for 6th and 7th graders, and while we cannot fix that problem, we can ask and draw attention to the idea of giving the students and teachers what they want— a snack.

In the words of a 6th-grade green pod student Mirabelle Choe, “I get very hungry after lunch. Because I do not get home until 4:00 p.m. after school. I think a snack is the best thing to do.”

Many other students in Bedford agreed with her opinion. The 6th graders eat lunch at 10:54 a.m. and 7th graders eat lunch at 11:38 a.m. Those are both extremely early for this meal.

According to research, the ideal time to eat lunch for kids ages 10-15 is between noon and 1 pm.

Sixty percent of people that we interviewed stated that the ideal snack time is 9 to 10am, the others claimed it should be at 1 to 2 pm. Both times are good options. For example, if snack is at 9 or 10 am, it separates the distance from breakfast and lunch.

On the other hand, snacking at 1 or 2 solves the problem of the distance between lunch and dinner.
Both have their reasons, but as long as we all get a snack, all will be good.
