On Trump’s First 100 Days . . . America is Not Being Fair
Dear Peers,
I do not wish to offend anyone, but I am disappointed about the way that our president is being treated.
While Trump was running for president, people held rallies against him, but that was alright. Opposition is a part of our country’s democratic election process. But, now that the election is over, the time for protesting has come to an end. What America needs now is for all of us to come together.
As I turn on the TV these days and hear thousands of voices screaming as loud as possible, I immediately turn down the volume. Blaring on the screen in front of me is a huge crowd of people with anti-Trump signs, some saying “Not my President!” and most of them reading very cruel insults towards our president, many even inappropriate. These words hurt. Yes, there have been moments in our history when the actions of presidents have been questioned, but never before has the very fact that the president is the president been so controversial. This scares me because I have never seen anything so like what I see now, so extreme that the boundary between facts and opinions has been entirely neglected, and I don’t know what will happen next. Just because you don’t like the candidate that won doesn’t mean you can suddenly say that the system isn’t fair, I think to myself. Sadly, this is not a one time demonstration, they happen very often these days.
With such things constantly on the TV and Internet, at times, it seems like the entire country is against Donald Trump. This, however, can’t be true, since Trump did win the election, and not by a small margin. Then why is there so much hate towards him and barely any support? Perhaps some of his supporters are simply too scared of the way that they will be seen by others who don’t like Trump. Revealing your support of our president to a friend who despises him can indeed be scary. I guess we’ve come to a time when it can be risky to agree with your own president.
I am writing this because I believe that Donald Trump has so far been a good president and will only continue to make America a better place to live in for all of us.
According to the Wall Street Journal, The US economy is growing, and the Dow Jones has surged over 12 percent since Trump was elected. 473,000 jobs were so far added to the economy, unemployment has fallen to 4.7%., wages are up by an average 2.8%. Many widespread and successful corporations, such as Samsung, ExxonMobil, and Hasbro, are doing exactly as Trump promised would happen, moving production out of foreign countries and back into the US to grow our country’s economy.
The President is acting on his promise to reduce the flow of illegal immigrants across the southern US border, working to finish the wall that has been started by previous administrations. Yes, America is a country of immigrants, they are what make it great, but it is necessary to make sure that they come into our country legally.
Many people automatically begin to blame Trump the second they hear the word wall because they feel that he is acting against immigrants and being racist while doing so. Donald Trump, however, is simply trying to enforce our constitutional law that makes sure that everyone who lives in America is legal. When the police arrest someone for robbing a bank, do people blame the police and call them racist? We have laws for a reason, laws that must be abided, so there is nothing wrong with Trump’s attempts to enforce them. As a result of Trump’s persistence and dedication towards curbing illegal immigration, unauthorized border crossings from Mexico are down by a whole 60%, according to “Townhall.”
Donald Trump is living up to his promises. Counteracting the spread of ISIS and protecting our country, he is advocating “extreme” vetting and stronger borders. He exited from the Trans Pacific Partnership because that partnership would not help our economy. The president is increasing military spending because he wants to make sure the US Army is ready and able to protect the country from any external threats.
Also, the president held the NATO members responsible for its lack in funding. As a result, NATO allies stepped up and agreed to pay the required 2% of their GDP into the NATO budget, according to The Economist. For years, the allies were refusing to pay their fare share, so America had to spend its taxpayers’ money to compensate.
Donald Trump is committed to cut foreign aid, which is just another way to save Americans their hard earned money. He doesn’t agree that American’s tax money should go to foreign countries.
President Trump has already done some good things for America, and as his term goes on, he will try to do even more. As people fight against our president, Trump fights for us, the people, each and every one of you, regardless of whether you like him or not. Every day, Trump is delivering on his campaign promise as he works to, “Make America Great Again, Greater Than Ever Before.” Even if you don’t like what he is doing, let’s all agree on one thing: Donald Trump is clearly trying hard for all of us, so let’s give him that chance he deserves.
