Speak Out:“What do you think about Kaepernick and other athletes kneeling and sitting during the national anthem?”

Let’s just say this, 2016 has not been easy.
With the deaths of multiple black Americans during encounters with the police and attacks against police officers themselves, the issue of race relations is front and center in America. So when San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick began sitting for the national anthem, it was controversial. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” said Kaepernick when explaining why he was sitting during the anthem. As the season progressed, more people have joined him, kneeling and holding their fists up during the anthem.
