Donald Trump: One of America’s Many Failures

Donald Trump, the billionaire real estate mogul, is running for president. Besides his money and buildings. He’s also known for insulting everyone from Hillary Clinton to the Mexican population, and for having a majestic head of hair.

He can’t go to a debate without yelling at another candidate. He’s taken seriously by a lot of people, and to others he’s a laughing stock and an idiot. Me, well, I think he’s a laughing stock. His views have many flaws, and overall, the majority of them are stupid and wouldn’t be effective.

One of his views is to keep Muslims out of America to try to prevent terrorism. However, America is the land of the immigrants. Every American is an immigrant or an immigrant’s descendant. So why should we stop letting immigrants come into America? Trump is saying to not let Muslims into the country just because of a bunch of terrorist attacks in Europe, and a couple here.

However, according to the Migration Policy Institute, a D.C. think tank, out of the 748,000 refugees that the U.S. has resettled since 9/11, only three have been arrested for activities related to terrorism, and none of them were close to executing acts of terrorism. If over the last 15 years, only three have been arrested, why should Muslims be barred from entering the country because they might be terrorists?

Also, according to the White House, 99.99 percent of all Muslims reject terrorism. Keeping Muslims out of the country would most likely end up accomplishing nothing.

Trump also believes that there should be a lower minimum wage. That is a very bad idea, and could backfire easily. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. That’s very little considering the fact that those who earn minimum wage make $21,170 a year, not including taxes and bills. Data for 2014 and 2015 is unknown, however according to Pew Research Center, in 2013, 1.5 million people worked at minimum wage. That may be a small portion of the population of America, but it’s still a lot of people.

If the minimum wage was lowered, those who end up working at the new minimum wage will have a smaller ability to purchase goods, and possibly hurt the economy. Also, lowering minimum wage won’t help the 1.5 million minimum wage workers. Overall, lowering the minimum wage would most likely help a small part of the population, instead of the majority.

Donald Trump also believes in little to no gun-control laws. This is a big mistake. America already has an issue with guns. According to the Gun Violence Archive, in 2015 there was 52,715 total incidents involving guns in the United States and 13,355 resulting in deaths.

Even though according to an estimate of the U.S. Census Bureau the population of the U.S. is roughly 323 million, 13,355 is still a lot of deaths. Yes, with guns we can defend ourselves better, but it’s easier for criminals and terrorists to get their guns too. Also, more guns could raise our murder rate.

We humans have been violent throughout our existence, and we still are today. This means that if we are given easier access to tools of violence, we will commit more acts of violence. Crime will always exist whether we like it or not, and that is the flaw with Trump’s view. He thinks giving weapons made to kill will help drastically lower the rate of gun murders and deaths. However, that’s entirely illogical since weapons made to kill, will kill.

Donald Trump’s views are illogical and face many flaws and would be ineffective if attempted. If Trump became president, America would burn, and America would be worse than it is currently under Obama. If you want America to improve don’t vote for Trump.
