Then, later on, the American Football League and National Football League emerged. After that, the AAFC and NFL decided to merge, creating what we know today as the NFL. In 1966 to 1969, before the merger between the AFL and NFL, the NFL and AFL agreed to have a championship game every year called the AFL-NFL championship, later renamed to the Super Bowl in 1968. In the first ever “Super Bowl” the Green Bay Packers won the World Professional Football Championship Trophy, but after winning the second Super Bowl, the NFL and AFL decided to rename it to the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the name of the Packers coach at the time. Currently, the only teams from the AAFC are the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns.
