Westport Schools May Be Disrupted by Protesting Drivers
Hold on, here we go again?
This Thursday, May 18, the Westport District sent out an email to warn students and parents of a possible bus strike.
DATTCO drivers of the Westport school buses had said that they were not going to show up to drive students to their schools. They are in contract negotiations in order to get better pay for their jobs. This possibility of a strike has spurred many conversations around the school, bit for today has administrators relieved that there was normal bus and car drop off.
“I hope it won’t affect us at all, but if it does happen, I know our staff will handle it in a professional way,” said Mrs. Coleen Banick, the 6th grade vice principal.
Mrs. Banick believes that the drivers have the right as employees to protest for more pay. However, it is not known how this will effect the students who rely on the bus in order to get to school if the strike were to occur.
