“Aquaman” delighted audiences everywhere, making a gross of $1.022 billion dollars worldwide.

With the “Aquaman” movie’s release on Dec. 21, 2018, some publicity has begun to build around it. The story features Jason Momoa with the lead role of Arthur Curry, a half-human and half Atlantean hero who also goes by the more known name of Aquaman. The film is the origin story of the hero as he embraces his heritage as an Atlantean king and tries to oust the evil leader of Atlantis before he goes to war with the world.

The movie is rated PG-13 and has a genre of action-adventure. Critics have expressed mostly mediocre opinions of the movie, but IGN journalist Tom Jorgenson, calls it “The best DC movie since The Dark Knight,” which is a very good opinion. Similar to Jorgenson, there have been far better reviews of the movie by audiences around the world.

But what about BMS students’s opinions? “I think that it seems like a good movie, and I can’t wait to watch it,” said Ko Seltzer, a seventh grader here at Bedford.

Some students have different opinions, though: “I think it will be like every DC movie ever,” says Isabella Martenson, a sixth grader at BMS.
The leading roles in the movie include Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard playing the role of Mera, an ally of Aquaman, and Patrick Wilson as Orm, the present King of Atlantis. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is directed by James Wan and has received an 7.5 out of 10 on IMDB.

When 10 BMS sixth graders were interviewed, only two out of the 10 said they would definitely like to see it. “Aquaman” has received a 64 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, a decent review from multiple critics.

Overall, 94 percent of Google users liked the movie. So, does “Aquaman” really, deserve the hype? Well, it really depends on your taste. If you are a fan of adventurous superhero movies, then it is set to be a good movie.
