A Musical Trip of a Lifetime
It is not uncommon to hear the beautiful sounds of music in the halls of Bedford as early as 7:00 in the morning everyday of the week. Bedford’s Specialty music ensembles are tireless when it comes to improvement and working towards their dreams to be the highest level of musicians possible.
On March 24, the striving musicians of Bedford’s Chamber Orchestra embarked on its first ever out of state trip to fill the stage of Symphony Hall in Boston, Mass., and learn from the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a performance of a lifetime.
“Not only will we all be learning and receiving feedback from a professional BSO musician, we will be making memories to last a lifetime. To not only have the chance to perform for Boston Symphony members, but to be given the opportunity to sit and perform on a stage, where so many famous musicians have performed over the years […] is truly a dream come true,” said Michele Anderson, conductor of the Bedford Chamber Orchestra, prior to the trip.
One of the five major American symphony orchestras, and one of the oldest, the Boston Symphony is widely regarded as one of the top concert halls in the world.
“I hope that every single musician came home feeling inspired. Inspired not only by the performance on the Symphony Hall stage, but by the amazing Boston Symphony Orchestra musicians who shared their personal stories and musical interpretations with us,” said Ms. Anderson.
She believes the greatest part of this experience was bringing together the Westport Public School’s middle and high school chamber orchestras to perform on stage at Symphony Hall.
“My favorite part was when we were on the stage and I got to hear the great acoustics. The sound of the entire chamber rung out in front of us for what felt like miles,” Sydney Greenberg, an eighth grade first violinist said.
” said Ms. Anderson.
Shirley Angos, a first violinist in the Chamber, was especially excited for the event. Though experiencing Chamber for the first time, she does not regret her decision to join in the slightest. “Chamber is truly an amazing group. You learn so many techniques and get to be a wonderful, music-loving community. It’s my first year of Chamber, and I’ve learned so much,” she says. “It’s opened so many doors for me as a musician already and never fails to give me incredible opportunities. It is one of the greatest parts of middle school.”
