Last year’s staff attending Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Spring Conference. This Crown is the fifth in a row for the paper.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association has announced this year’s Crown Award winners, and for the fifth year in a row, “Ursus,” Bedford Middle School’s newspaper, has been recognized.

A crown is  Columbia’s highest achievement. The staff’s five papers are judged over the summer by a panel of experts in scholastic media, and they choose the best of the best to win Crowns.

The staff works long hours reporting the news, laying out the paper, and being a news source for the school and parents.

Co-advisers Samantha Gettings and Stephen Rexford are really happy for last year’s “Ursus” staff. Some members are already working on “Inklings” or taking the intro class to join the award-winning high school paper.  If you would like to see their work, visit ursus.news to see their online and paper issues all archived there.
